Support My Xtreme Hike Challenge Today

Xtreme Hike Challenge

On September 9, 2017 I will be in the Cystic Fibrosis Xtreme Hike. During the Xtreme Hike I will cover 30.1 miles in one day. This year’s Fall hike is along the Taum Sauk section of the Ozarks Trail. The trail is challenging but has some amazing views along the way. During the hike we will “summit” Taum Sauk Mountain, the highest elevation in Missouri at 1,772 feet. Not Mt. Everest, but I’ll be sucking wind none-the-less. I hope that I won’t need oxygen tanks. The hike will start before sunrise and then I’ll be chasing daylight the rest of the way. My son and I hiked this section of trail last year, but we spread it out over three days. It was challenging then and it will certainly be a challenge to hike just over 30 miles of it in one day. My son isn’t 18 so he can’t register for the event. However, he will be going on training hikes and volunteering his time as support crew during the event. Maybe I can convince some of my other family members and friends to join us.

For Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease that causes a mucous buildup in the lungs and impacts other organs. Among many other symptoms, the disease makes it difficult to breathe, causes infections, stops digestion, and eventually leads to respiratory failure. There are over 1,700 known mutations of the disease. About 1,000 people are diagnosed with CF each year. In the 1950’s people diagnosed with CF rarely lived past five or six years old. With support from people like us, today the median age is 40. That is a huge improvement, but still a very short life. Treatment regimens usually include daily airway clearing techniques, inhaled medications, and medicines to improve the digestion of much needed nutrients. Research and development of most CF drugs available today came through support from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Major progress has been made, but people with CF need your help to live a longer life.[1]

My personal target is $2,500. I have started the donations off with a personal $100 donation. Please give what you can. Every dollar counts.

If you are interested in joining the hike let me know. If I can get a few people we will start a team.

Peace,

Brian
